As the Aries Ingress for the year for the USA had a movable sign rising, we consider the Cancer Ingress to describe the influences and events in the next quarter. As before, we will examine the Ingress through the William Ramesey’s rules as described in his book Astrologia Munda published in 1653. In addition, we will consider the influences of the outer planets if they form tight and significant aspects with the other planets.
Initial impressions
The ascendant is only half a degree apart from that of the Aries ascendant. This means that many of the houses are ruled by the same planet. As before, the nodal axis falls in the 2nd and 8th houses putting an important emphasis on money matters. In particular, Jupiter and Saturn are in the same houses and signs, although Saturn is now retrograde. Saturn’s retrograde can indicate a literal retreading of the ground covered by Saturn’s actions in the previous quarter. Mars has moved away from afflicting the cusp of the 7th house to the 8th house, and from Capricorn where Mars is exalted to Aquarius where he is without essential dignity. Mars is also afflicted by a close conjunction with the South Node which means that those things signified by Mars in the Ingresses will be significantly weakened in power.
First house – The Lady of the Year, the condition of the people
We have Cancer rising which gives the Moon as Lady of the Year. The Moon therefore describes the condition of the people, and its aspects with other planets will describe influences that act upon the general population of the United States.
The Moon is peregrine in the angular 4th house. This may suggest a focus of the people on those things represented by the 4th house during this quarter, e.g., their land, property, costs and taxes associated with them, farming, as well as the opposition party.
The Moon makes an applying square to Mercury, who is dignified by term and face in the 1st house. As Mercury is Lord of the 4th and 12th houses, there may be some conflict between the people and their secret enemies, as well as between the people and the opposition party.
The second house – the wealth and substance of the nation
Cancer is on the 2nd house cusp and the wealth of the nation is represented by the Moon. As noted above, the Moon is peregrine and afflicted by a square from Mercury. The Moon is without any essential strength, which can be taken to mean that the wealth is not particularly strong this quarter, and there may in fact be some attempts to reduce the wealth of the nation through the action of its hidden enemies and the opposition party.
On the plus side, we have the benefic Venus in the 2nd house dignified by term. Venus is conjunct the North node which can have a magnifying effect on planets it aspects. This is a positive sign for prosperity.
If we consider the Part of Fortune next, as it also has a signification of wealth. The Part of Fortune is angular in the 4th house and receives a widely applying trine from the Sun who is the sect light. The dispositor of the Part of Fortune is Venus and, although Venus does not aspect the Part of Fortune, Venus has some essential dignity and is supported by the North Node. Unfortunately, the Part of Fortune is afflicted by an applying square from Mercury which, as before, suggests some attack on the wealth of the nation. Where might this attack come from? Well, we might expect it from quarters associated with Mercury’s universal significations – technology, media, the market in general, trade in general – or from those things associated withe the houses it rules – land, property, the actions of the opposition party (the DNC, but also Uniparty Republicans and Chamber of Commerce representatives who place their own interests above those of the people they represent).
It’s interesting to note that there were very strong indications of prosperity for the USA in its Aries Ingress while they are not so pronounced in the Cancer Ingress. This may suggest a reduced GDP this quarter when compared to the previous one, and a little less growth and consumer confidence.
The third house – media, the country’s infrastructure, communication, in-country transportation
Leo is on the cusp of the 3rd house ruled by the Sun who is the sect light, but peregrine in the 12th house. The Sun applies to an opposition with a very strong Saturn, who is Lord of the 7th, 8th and 9th houses, and retrograde in the 7th house.
Given that Leo is often associated with celebrities and authority figures such as rulers, one possible meaning of this might suggest some legal troubles for heads of media companies which would result in either incarceration (represented by the 12th house) or some significant reduction in their power. Another interpretation is further reduction of freedom of expression on the internet. We have already experienced deplatforming of anti-establishment voices on platforms like Twitter and YouTube, and this may be about to increase. Whatever event that is associated with the opposition to Saturn is unlikely to bode well for what is signified by the Sun here. Fourth house – land, buildings, the opposition party
Virgo is in on the cusp, and as in the Aries Ingress, the opposition party is represented by Mercury. Mercury is dignified by term and face and it is angular in the first house. It suggests a party that still has some strength let in it, a little more than in the last quarter, and with some power to act.
Interestingly it is just separating from a trine with Neptune in the 10th house, a planet associated with deceit, deception and secret dealings which may be indicative of some secret manipulation in government.
Mercury’s next aspect is an extremely tight square to the Part of Fortune which might suggest that it uses its strength to attack the fortune and wealth of the nation. This may be a continuation in part of bringing pressure to bear to force the President’s hand in re-opening trade negotiations with other countries since Mercury is a planet associated with trade. Of course, Mercury is also associated with theft and spycraft.
The fifth house – media personalities, entertainment and leisure industry, ambassadors and children
Libra is on the cusp of the 5th house and so Venus is ruler of this house, and She signifies media personalities, the entertainment and leisure industries, pleasurable activities, children, ambassadors as well as all forms of recreation and speculation.
Venus is in her terms in the 2nd house, and is just separating from a conjunction with the North Node. She has some essential dignity and her benefic qualities are magnified by the conjunction with the North Node which has the qualities of Venus and Jupiter. Venus is in much better condition than in the previous Ingress suggesting reinvigorated entertainment and leisure industries. Unfortunately Venus makes a partile applying opposition (within a degree) to Mars, in the 8th house, who is Lord of the 11th house and of the sign Scorpio intercepted in the 5th house. Venus then makes an applying square to Jupiter, retrograde in Scorpio in the 5th house, who is Lord of the 6th house and the 10th house.
Although these industries and personalities do well, there is a confrontation with the malefic Mars who is in the unfortunate 8th house. As Mars rules the 11th house of government, this might indicate a confrontation between these industries and members of the government. The applying square to a very martial Jupiter, who is less likely to manifest its benefic qualities as Jupiter is still retrograde and is Lord of the unfortunate 6th, may also suggest some government intervention as Jupiter is a significator of the ruler of the country.
Sixth house – health of the people and, by extension, the health system
As in the Aries Ingress, Jupiter rules this house and is still peregrine and retrograde in Scorpio in the 5th house. In the Aries Ingress we saw predicted and saw some signs of the beginning of the repeal of some aspects of Obamacare, and this might continue in to this quarter. We also saw President Trump announce plans to lower prescription drug prices and we might expect to see further developments in this area.
Illnesses signified by Jupiter may continue to be an issue, such as liver issues and inflammation of the lungs. With Jupiter in Scorpio, diseases which affect the urinary and reproductive system may be of especial concern during the quarter too.
Jupiter receives square aspects from Venus and from Mars. The square from Mars is particularly concerning because it is from the 8th house associated with death, and Jupiter is disposited by Mars. On the negative side, this might suggest some health issues causing increased mortality to the people. On the plus side, it could indicate government intervention to reduce prices and remove some non-beneficial aspects of the health system.
7th house – open enemies, partnerships, relationships; 8th house – mortality, taxes; 9th house – law, the judiciary, foreign affairs, international travel
We can consider these houses together as they are all ruled by Saturn, just as they were in the Aries Ingress. Capricorn is on the cusp of the 7th and 8th houses, Aquarius on the cusp of the 9th. Saturn is strong in his own sign Capricorn and afflicts the cusp of the 7th house. We may see some of Saturn’s more malefic characteristics made more manifest in this quarter as Saturn is now retrograde. Saturn also applies by opposition to the Sun who is the sect luminary and the Lord of the 3rd house in the 12th.
In nativities the 7th house and its ruler is a significator of relationships and partnerships; in mundane astrology, it signifies relationships with neighbouring countries, trade relationships as well as conflicts with open enemies. We may see old ground revisited and renegotiations of trade relationships occurring, border issues being in the news again, as well as conflicts with other countries. With Saturn being retrograde, this conflict may appear more uncompromising than in the previous quarter.
The 8th house is generally an indication of taxes, debt, and mortality. There may be tax issues reconsidered and debt may be an issue. This may particularly be an issue for the internet, media organisations, celebrities, leaders in industry and infrastructure. In particular, the cusp of the 8th house is conjunct the 15 February Solar eclipse point, so we may see issues raised by this eclipse become a concern again. This house is also afflicted by the presence of Mars and the South Node so it will be an area to watch. We may see some kickback from the IRS on the GOP tax reform proposals introduced in the last quarter.
The 9th house is associated with international affairs and long distance travel. Saturn strong and retrograde will generally get his own way and makes negotiation difficult, but the retrograde motion may see these issues being revisited.
Tenth and Eleventh houses – the President, the ruling party, government
As we noted in the Aries Ingress:
Neptune is on the cusp of the 10th house, the conjunction is within a few degrees, so it is likely to have some significant influence. Neptune retrogrades very close to the midheaven of the Aries Ingress chart (13’50” Pisces) this year. Neptune is generally a significator of secrecy and secret affairs, dissolution and poisonings, deceit, treachery and confusion. Neptune enters the retrograde zone at 13’42” Pisces on 26 February, it goes retrograde at 16’30” Pisces on June 18, then stations direct at 13’42” Pisces on 24 November. In other words, it crosses the midheaven of the Aries Ingress chart three times.
Neptune went retrograde a few days before the Cancer Ingress, so it will be interesting to see how this manifests this quarter. We saw alot of lying, deceit, secrecy and obfuscation during the IG report from the uniparty and the FBI/DOJ. I suspect we may see more of this obfuscating and illusory quality of Neptune manifesting more strongly in this quarter regarding these issues.
Pisces is on the cusp of the 10th house which makes Jupiter the significator of the President and the ruling party. Jupiter is peregrine in Scorpio intercepted in the 5th house. Jupiter applies by trine to the Midheaven, and then applies by square to Venus (Lady of the 5th house and of Taurus intercepted in the 11th house) in the 2nd house, and by square to Mars (Lord of the 11th house and of Scorpio intercepted in the 5th house) in the 8th house.
Jupiter not being in any signs of its dignity and retrograde can indicate some obstacles to the President and the ruling party, but to be fair, this was the case in the Aries Ingress and it certainly did not seem to prevent President Donald Trump from getting a great deal done. Despite this, it’s becoming fairly obvious that he faces significant obstruction from the establishment and bureaucrats within government. The focus of the government will be on similar issues as the last Ingress.
The square from Venus may suggest some conflict with members of government, particularly around issues of the nation’s wealth, and the square from Mars may signify further conflict with members of his government around taxes.
Aries is on the 11th house cusp and government itself is signified by Mars. Mars is in the 8th house showing a focus on tax issues. Mars is peregrine and afflicted by a conjunction to the South Node which can make it less effective but also more chaotic and dangerous. Bonatti in his treatise on Mundane Astrology mentions that this conjunction can lead to violence.
12th house – secret enemies, spies, espionage
Gemini is on the cusp of the 12th house, the secret enemies of the people are signified by Mercury (who, as in the last Ingress, also signifies the opposition party).
Mercury makes an applying square to the Part of Fortune and a square to the Moon. We may see some attacks on the nation’s wealth by these hidden enemies, or there may also be some sort of attack on the people as they are signified by the Moon as well as their wealth.
The Libra Ingress for the United States promised to be a little more interesting since the rulerships will have changed then.
